Medicare for autism is now a Liberal Party of Canada policy priority

Vancouver – Last weekend, delegates to the Liberal Party of Canada’s national convention, held in Winnipeg, voted overwhelmingly to make Medicare coverage for autism treatment – Applied Behavioural Analysis – a priority.

“This is a huge step forward! When it moves from the Liberal policy book to the country’s law books, it will dramatically improve the lives of Canadians affected by autism. This will end health-care discrimination against some ofCanada’s most vulnerable,” said MFAN director, Jean Lewis, “Our heartfelt congratulations and thanks to Liberal delegates for doing the right thing, and, especially, to those who worked so hard both at the convention and beforehand to make this happen.”

Now it’s up to the Liberal cabinet and caucus to transform their party’s number one health priority resolution into law. MFAN intends to be inOttawa in the next short while to work with those in government who can get this done.
